What is Insurance Premium Tax (IPT)?
Depending upon the country of residence of a policyholder, there may be
a local tax payable on their medical insurance premiums. If any local premium
tax does apply, such tax will be identified, accounted for and added to a
premium at initial quotation or renewal. Taxes are known to apply to Austria,
Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal,
Slovenia, Spain and United Kingdom. For this reason, we ask for the country of
residence at quotation. IPT accounts for slight variations in premiums, even in
cases where there are two people of the same age, both requiring the same level
of cover, area of cover and underwriting terms.

Who underwrites InterGlobal’s plans?
From the 1 April 2007 our plans are underwritten by InterGlobal
Insurance Company Limited. InterGlobal Insurance Company Limited, formed
in 2007 as part of the InterGlobal group of companies, has an
A.M. Best financial strength rating of B++ (Good) and is
authorised and regulated in the United Kingdom by the Financial Services
Authority.
In certain countries we have formed partnerships with carefully selected local
insurers in order to comply with local legislations and benefit from additional
regional support. Where your country of residence is in one of our partner
countries your plan will be underwritten by the local insurer detailed on your
certificate of insurance and, if applicable, shown on the back cover of this
brochure. Your plan will be fully reinsured by InterGlobal Insurance
Company Limited.
What underwriting terms does InterGlobal offer?
We offer a 24 month moratorium
on all new business. We are also able to offer
Continuation of Previous Medical
Exclusions (CPME) and
Medical History Disregarded (MHD) terms
on some group business.
What is the minimum group size?
We can cover groups from 3 people upwards on UltraCare plans and 10
people upwards on International Schools plans. We are also able to cover the
dependants of group members. However, these dependants do not count towards the
size of the group.
Do you cover people in their home country?
Yes, as long as there is no local legislation that stops us from doing so (for
example in the the USA - see below) or the person wanting cover is not subject
to exchange controls or local licensing regulations. In many cases our
plans can offer a comprehensive alternative to domestic private medical
insurance. However, because our plans have been designed for people living
outside of their home country there are some benefits on our plans which may not
be of use to people in their home country, for example emergency evacuation and
repatriation.
Do you cover US citizens?
We can cover US citizens who are residing outside of the USA. We
can also provide cover for US citizens in the USA for up to 180 days per year,
provided that the geographic area of cover is Area 3 - Worldwide. However,
we are unable to provide cover for US citizens residing in the USA for more than
180 days per year due to US legislation.
Do you cover countries that are experiencing political and/or economic
instability?
We can cover Iraq and Afghanistan with a 300% premium loading.
All other requests for cover in areas experiencing political and/or economic
instability would be referred to our underwriting team. In
order to establish whether cover can be provided, we would need the following
information:
- Location of residence within the country
- The job role that the person to be covered would be undertaking
- Details of any security arrangements that are in place for the person(s)
requiring cover
In the Optional Personal Accident Plan, what is a "unit"?
One unit is a monetary value that you would receive if you were to
sustain bodily injury, due to an accident, per benefit defined in the
Optional Personal Accident Table of Benefits. This
monetary value is GB£50,000 or US$85,000 or Euro75,000, depending on the
currency in which you bought your plan. The InterGlobal Optional Personal
Accident Plan allows up to five (5) units to be insured, resulting in a maximum
pay-out per benefit of GB£250,000 or US$425,000 or Euro375,000.
Are Personal Accident units valid per person or per policy?
Personal Accident units are valid per person. If personal
accident cover is required for more than one person on a single policy, those
units must be purchased per person.
